You can get the flu even if you’ve had the vaccine. I had the flu twice this year, and had the vaccine. The vaccine just helps you not die from it.

Not to say that’s the flu, sounds like the ER is a good idea.

BGM, that sounds absolutely wonderful. You clearly picked a great spot to go to.

I have some minor symptoms. I’m sure it’s nothing, but of course it’s making me feel even more anxious. I slept ten hours straight last night. I think that’s the most sleep I’ve gotten a night in a decade. The CDC has a symptom checker online, should anyone worry they have the virus.

I went out shopping for essentials this afternoon. It’s pretty grim out there.

Call out your relatives if you think they’re being foolish. Now is the time to do that. You won’t see them in quite awhile so tempers will die down if they’re the type to hold a grudge.

I think most people are cooperating. There are a lot of assholes, but I think they’re getting more attention because it is so infuriating. Even the DT fans in my family are paying attention and obeying the orders of their state and local governments. They bemoan the restrictions, but they are obeying them.

I worry because people are twisting the announcements (for example) in Philly the police are arresting criminals but allowing nonviolent offenders to be released. Breitbart and other “news” sources are now twisting that to be Philly releasing violent criminals. I’m afraid the crazies are going to lose it soon.

Supposedly, there is a child with CV who was admitted to the children’s hospital that my niece is still in. That really worries me. My cousin works there and there are some really, really sick and vulnerable kids there.

“Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf said that he was calling on nonessential businesses to close down across the state. While Wolf specified that the state will not be enforcing his shutdown recommendations, city officials said they may use emergency authority to close or penalize businesses that fail to comply with the municipal shutdown order.”

I think there will be mandatory lockdowns soon. In my suburban PA town people are still congregating in droves at local parks and playgrounds, despite having barricades, signs and caution tape. A police officer went to a particularly popular one and told them all to go home, explained why the playgrounds and parks are closed. As soon as he got everyone out of the area he left, and they all went back to the playground.

    People are crazy.

This thread is very helpful. Very illuminating and useful graphs. Young children haven’t died, yet. But older children have at a rate higher than seasonal flu. And that does not mean they don’t get very, very sick. The reality is, the shit has not yet even hit the fan here. I’m terrified.

I’m somehow (I don’t know why) slightly surprised how casually some are taking this. I don’t understand why people think it’s like a cold and you’ll feel a little sick but get better. It cause severe lung problems, and we don’t even know what that looks like long term in survivors. Young, healthy people are still in critical care for this. I just read a days old article on thehill.com that says preliminary studies show the virus may be able to live for three hours in the air after aspiration.

Wow, Helen. I’m so sorry. The response from your doctor is fucking crazy. Where are you, if you don’t mind sharing?

People either don’t care- the foolish feeling of invincibility or the nihilism of “the whole world is up in flames so nothing I do matters” selfish ideology. People can have Covid for five days +/- before having any symptoms. We’re fucked. I tried to find numbers last night, but the most recent one I could find said the US has tested less than 14,000. Meanwhile South Korea is testing 20,000 per day.

I’m in PA, too. How old is SOF? I’ve got a bunch of recommendations for stuff to do with kids if you/anyone is interested. I’m stressed, too. We just canceled visiting some family tomorrow. They sort of laughed at us, which was annoying. They are in the immunodeficiency camp, too. I’ve been freaking out a little bit. Unfortunately, I tossed out seldom needed anxiety meds awhile back. I’m really regretting that now.
