Thanks everyone! I messaged my PCP this morning. I’m sure you’re right and it’s prob Omicron.

    Fruit popsicles!!

I was supposed to be in teh office today for an interview we have on Tuesday. Clients are starting to do in person interviews again. We have two this week. WTF? Luckily, some colleagues are covering for me.

I may have finally succumbed to Covid. Or a cold. Or flu. I took a rapid that came back negative but we know that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

I’m going on day three of a horrible sore throat. That’s the only symptom, but it feels like it’s on fire. For three days.

I’m going to send my doctor a note first thing tomorrow and see what she says. She’s good at getting back within a couple of hours.

The husband and I haven’t been around anyone with symptoms or known Covid. We actually haven’t done anything since the holidays besides grocery stores or what not and we still wear a mask everywhere. So I dunno.

@Canada Goose, I totally agree w/ you about rapid tests and unless, like @Wendy said you’re testing daily, they’re really not a good indicator to know whether or not you have Covid.

A coworker had a negative, then positive, then negative test. All taken consecutively over three days. She had a scratchy, dry throat and runny nose. A friend tested negative, but is still sick so finally went to urgent care and they think she got a false negative. Luckily, she stayed home despite getting a negative result because she felt so bad. A cousin had a positive then negative, consecutively. We still canceled Xmas with the extended family, thank god.

ETA: I’m not against rapid tests, def know their limitations and act accordingly.

Good luck w/ your move @lisforleslie. It’s def an excellent time to purge.

Fellow Chicagoans and others in places where hospitals are filling up, be extra careful out there, as in, don’t slip on the ice or slice your hand or get hit by a bus or whatever. A friend tested positive for Covid and a few days later started having chest pains. She went to Rush and waited 15 hours to see a dr. 15 hours!! She went in at 11 am yesterday and saw someone at 4 am this morning. She counted about 40 people who heard the wait time and left.

My hope is that we all get through the next couple of months without serious incident, including serious Covid.

The testing daily w/ at home tests makes sense @Wendy. I’ve had no symptoms yet, well, I was sick on Saturday, but that was purely from over imbibing at home on NYE. Way too much champagne, not enough food and I paid the price.

That’s a good point @kate! How good are at home tests for the new variant, especially since it’s a lot weaker? I’m like, how have I not had it? But I haven’t had any symptoms and we did test before seeing the fam at Christmas.

To be clear, I’m still masking up and playing it safe. I’ve branched out a little more, like I went home for the holiday’s, but not nearly as much as what I know others are doing.

Isn’t it inevitable that we’ll all (or nearly all) get it at some point? This new variant has made itself basically look like the flu or a bad cold. Of course, I still blame the unvaccinated, anti-masks wearers for prolonging the pandemic and for taking up valuable medical resources.

I guess I’m in the same camp as @missmj. I’m mostly concerned now about long-term effects, and potentially passing it on to my parents, who haven’t gotten boosted yet but have promised my sisters and I that they’ll get boosted this month.

    Good luck getting home @Wendy.

If this guy finds red velvet that repulsive… even if it’s for his SO, whom he supposedly loves, on her birthday… then he could buy her a red velvet cupcake. Instead, he’s like, screw that. I’ll get her whatever I want to eat.

    I’m truly baffled.

I was in downstate IL, my hometown is right on the Mississippi, for Thanksgiving. Despite the IL mask mandate, NOBODY was wearing them anywhere. Ok, a few were, but mask wearers were def the minority. I’d say about 3% of people wore a mask. My mom, nieces and sis where theirs still, luckily.

IL is def red again on the Covid scale, which makes me so happy I got my booster! At least in Chicago, most people are still wearing masks.

All I can say @Copa, drink A LOT of water. We had J&J first and were really sick after. We had the Moderna booster and I drank a crap town of water and was basically just tired for a day. My sister, who had the same deal as us w/ J&J and then had the Moderna booster had a pretty bad headache w/ the booster. But she also said she didn’t drink much water. I know it’s trite, but I’m convinced water helps with the symptoms.
