@Ktfran. ugh that totally sucks. Do you think it’s that or the bad press on the COVID course? You could always walk around this weekend to spot a nice patio and reserve a few minutes before?
did you ever go to Goosefoot? That was on my top list. The BEST BEST BEST place I ever went was 42grams. and then two years later I watched the documentary on what a dick the chef was. sigh… he and his former wife still put on a great dinner.Never got to go to grace. I had been looking at doing one of the newer omakase places this year for my birthday (precovid). Instead, we’re doing Shaw’s and then hitting up Andy’s Jazz club. That, plus the massage and facial (which will really be low risk since it’s one on one) will max out my risk bank for the week.
July 8, 2020 at 2:43 pm #893834@moneypenny: good luck!
We had two workers test positive in since March, but haven’t had any spread and they weren’t “picked up” at work. I’m sure the construction site is under similar precautions as our manufacturing facility so hopefully those with “close prolonged” contact are kept out and tested and everyone else is also taking precautions like you are.July 6, 2020 at 9:27 am #892424@Fyodor, I’m very sorry about your mother. Grief comes in waves, but I hope the weekend back home and seeing other loved ones was cathartic.
@Wendy: It’s really really troubling for the kids. Layer this on top of the racial injustice and you have an entire generation of black/brown kids on the south and west sides of Chicago who are getting lost in disproportionate numbers. VP at my work was talking about what his kid’s private school is doing to ensure in-person instruction and while all very good, healthy steps: what about the kids that aren’t this privileged? That are home alone and expected to have school online? How are they going to fare in 5 or 10 years or is the cycle going to continue? And of course, the unfortunate usual violence over the fourth, particularly against children. People at work talking about all the shootings in front of their homes. The protests and pontificating are good, but where’s the action? I have a lot of privilege as do most of my friends… but living and working on the south side, in an incredibly segregated city (as opposed to most of my friends who stay in the northern half)… I see a lot more of the disparity in resources. I’m rambling, but this is all to say: the struggle of the kids really really gets to me. Who is advocating for them?July 2, 2020 at 1:31 pm #891544Wendy: is Drew back at work at all?
Daycare pushed the start date back again because they couldn’t get a caterer and it’s required per DCFS. Hopefully they open, but the most recent email made it seem.. questionable. We’ve seen some of her friends from daycare in the park outside and she’ll run over to them, grab their hands and then skip hand-in-hand with them up and down the hill. It’s the sweetest thing in the whole world. She’s a lover and gets so excited to see her friends (and her puppy friends). Hanging out at home with mom and dad is pretty lame anymore. Can’t remember if I posted it on it, but we got our test results back prior to vising family: no antibodies and no virus
June 29, 2020 at 2:42 pm #891221Just got back from our family weekend in southern Illinois (we rented a lake house/did not go into any town etc). All the inlaws were coming from suburbs of St. Louis. We (the chicagoans) got tested for both anitbodies and COVID a few days prior (negative on both fronts). and yes, southern illinois is a different ballgame. Definitely saw two Confederate flags while down there (4 hours from Chicago) and there was an outdoor public auction that we drove past which was full. So weird.
But, it was very very nice to be with family in a secluded way. Also, if you need a place to get tested in Chicago: https://loopmedicalcenter.com/. Very easy to get an appointment. I think we’ll continue to do this when we’re taking “bigger” risks like the trip.
As for masks: I do not wear one while running outside or in general if I’m out of doors, but am very strict about maintaining plenty of space with people. I just bought some Adidas ones https://www.adidas.com/us/face-covers-m-l-3-pack/H08837.html for at the gym once it opens for classes. We wear one in our building for elevators etc and of course anytime we’re indoors at a store. At work I do not wear one, but wear a face shield whenever I’m out on the shop. I wipe down my office when I go in the mornings.
June 12, 2020 at 7:50 am #888910I feel and look human again! They did dry my hair, and everything was very spaced out and nicely managed. My stylist normally takes me and my friend at the same time so one is getting cut while the others color is setting, but she wanted to wait til next time to do that. It really won’t be an issue because the salon is long enough that there is plenty of space to do distance. Plus, she only has 3 MAYBE four stylists working at any one time. They made some moveable glass dividers that were placed between the dryers or could be placed between stylists if necessary. She’s also moving her days to Mondays to take advantage of fewer people in the shop (she owns so she can really do what she wants). All-in-All, it was great. Next up: dentist on monday.
June 11, 2020 at 2:27 pm #888785perfect. I’m doing balyage tonight so i’m assuming i’ll need the blow dry as well since she also finishes the cut dry
June 11, 2020 at 1:04 pm #888774@Kate, that is really good news (and hopeful too for reopening measures) about the great clips stylists.
my haircut is tonight. I still haven’t heard if you can get a blow dry in illinois/chicago but I suppose we will see.
@BGM, I’m very sorry about your bad news.
In other news, my friend made me a cutesy hello kitty mask. she was donating proceeds to a domestic violence shelter. it’s much more comfortable than the surgical masks i was wearing (aka doesn’t make me wanna throw up). Either that or its because I’m finally second trimester
June 9, 2020 at 10:20 am #888426So. um.
Just got word back that daycare is planning to open in July which is good. Whats not good is that they are now having reduced hours for 90 days (!?!?!). 8 to 4:30. Which works for no one. Especially if you have to go into work as I do.
But, we’ll figure out. Will try to do one night extra long in the office and have Radiostar go home early.. then switch off. Just trying to get my 40 or so.
June 6, 2020 at 9:54 am #887993@kate, I looked at our retirement and other accounts and yea, it’s back to almost no-losses. Weird. I’m not mad about it.. just a bit puzzled.
Heading to Bridgeport today to do a little urban hiking at the old quarry. Probably head to a restaurant and bakery nearby to pick up provisions. Protest through Grant sometime today which depending on naptime can walk over to. I signed up for MBMHBC volunteering and trying to organize a group volunteer event for this fall for the sorority and alumnae groups.
