@Fyodor, they live in the SF bay area. I know that not all pharmacies around here have vaccines yet (CVS and Walgreens here) but I’m sure that will change once there is more supply. I do know that they would rather just go to the same place they went before, which I understand- it’s familiar, it’s close by- but I am going to have a conversation with them on where else they have looked (or been advised to look). There must be other options!
In other news, it came out yesterday that one mass vaccine site may have given 4,000 people the wrong dose amount. Oof!!!March 3, 2021 at 4:16 pm #1031444I’m kinda bummed and frustrated because my parents have been trying to get their second vaccine scheduled since mid-February and haven’t had any luck. For the first, they were able to sign up through their doctor with a large heathcare company’s site at the county event center, and it was super easy. Apparently a different company is running that site now, and I *just* read today that that company has had to cancel 90,000 second dose appointments across many many sites (most of them large drive-in sites that cover a lot of people), because they can’t get enough doses from the state. Ugh!
January 29, 2021 at 1:53 pm #1009547I am very relieved to say that both of my parents got their first shot on Monday. Their doctor called last Thursday to say that he could get them on the list and to go fill out a form that he had emailed them, and *lo and behold* they got an appointment. The county fairgrounds has been turned into a mass vaccination space, in the hopes to vaccinate the entire county by summer (we’ll see how that goes). They said it was very well organized and they were in and out in about an hour. My sister also got vaccinated since she is an essential worker (pharmacist), so I’m very glad for that too!
My state was 50th for awhile I think but we’ve jumped up in ranks. I am really hoping the process gets smoother, especially in more populated areas.
January 19, 2021 at 3:28 pm #1009118Ktfran- I think I know what park you are talking about, I saw some photos yesterday of it as well. It is really popular and constantly packed under normal circumstances and this past weekend temps were in the 70’s… I agree, it’s SO ridiculous. Law enforcement only goes around and tells people to space out and nobody gets fined as far as I have heard. They basically announce these rules (like a 10pm curfew) but don’t actually enforce anything other than “recommending.”
My general observation is that everyone follows the rules, waiting in line to get into small shops, wearing masks everywhere… But also that people are still throwing private get-togethers and parties. So here we are. And I feel badly for salons- they can follow all the rules that regular shops can (masks, cleaning, limiting people inside) but they have to stay closed.January 14, 2021 at 6:06 pm #1004284@Copa, thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to check her out!
I, too, have always had long eyebrows that would curl down, and especially when I was a teen it was hard to keep them looking straight and brushed into a nice arch. I got religious about brushing them as soon as possible in the morning to train them to go the direction I wanted! I also remember when I was mid-late 20’s and I had a male friend who would tell me he was amazed at how perfectly even/symmetrical my eyebrows were. (Yesss, all that effort paid off!!)January 14, 2021 at 1:35 pm #1004072That’s good to know, Kate! I have heard there are some good off the shelf serums that work, but I haven’t been sure of what would be a good one to try. The only Rx one I know of is Latisse, and I hear it works really well. I have kind of put this on the back burner since I don’t go anywhere these days, but I do want to at least do some research!
January 14, 2021 at 1:22 pm #1004060I’m kinda loving this makeup thread!!
Ok, I have been having a conundrum about my eyebrows for the last couple of years. I’m 36 but all through my 20’s and teen years my eyebrows grew with no problem, I haven’t overplucked since I was 15, and my routine was to just pluck stray hairs and brush them in the mornings. Add to that, I’m blonde and my brows are a combo of light brown and invisible blonde hairs. Fast forward to the last couple of years, and my eyebrows are actually more blonde than they were 10 years ago AND they just don’t grow. I can go 2 months without touching them! I’m taking thyroid medication for a borderline-low thyroid, but they still don’t grow! So I can’t let them fill in more, as I would like, since the closer they are to my ears the more they taper and the hairs are invisible. I’ve tried a few things to fill them in but the colors are either still too dark or too yellow. I have the same problem with my eyelashes- they are shorter than they used to be! At least for them I have a mascara that I really really like (Thrive Causemetics). I’m considering seeing my derm to see what growth serums might work… (Thanks for reading – I had to vent a little!)December 8, 2020 at 1:38 pm #969367Goo d to know- I’ll have to try that one next. I have also heard good things about The Ordinary – I’d like to try them out too.
December 8, 2020 at 12:52 pm #969354I also use the Roc retinol eye cream! I have tried a few different brands (high and low brand/cost) and I like this one so far. I am starting to get some fine lines around my eyes, so I’ve been on the hunt too! I use it usually once a day on the area all around my eyes (I suppose you could use it anywhere?) after toner and before moisturizer (I use Murad moisturizer- the vitamin C one). It might be my imagination, but I do feel like my skin looks brighter and smoother, just a little? So far so good, I think!
December 7, 2020 at 1:42 pm #968975I’m so sorry, Fyodor! I’m glad, at least, that she has a mild case. I hope she recovers really quickly!! Also that is so frustrating that you have been so good about staying away from people and yet somehow she caught it. It just makes so sense. The vaccine can’t come fast enough.
November 30, 2020 at 2:58 pm #968195So I’m invited to a wedding in September of next year in Calistoga- my friend is basically renting this ranch, and she says even if 5 people show up she’s fine with that. I’m looking forward to it since it’ll probably be the first time I’ll actually go anywhere (at least that I anticipate right now)! If covid is under control by then I’m totally taking a couple of days and making a trip of it.
Also, some (off topic) good news – I took the last national board exam that I need to take for my license on Saturday and I passed! Thank goodness. I still need to take my state exam but I have to wait awhile to do that anyway. I’m just relieved that I no longer have to think about these exams again. And now I can enjoy the holidays and do things I actually like to do like read books and work in my yard and things like that.
