Congrats @Ver – that’s exciting! That sounds interesting @Copa. I suppose it makes sense that there are different attachment styles. Can you tell me what book it is again? I’d like my husband to take those quizzes!
@JD – that’s exciting – about his job! My youngest daughter is still at the company where she got her first job – and has actually moved up in the company. She works and goes to school but has managed to find balance between the two.
Don’t be in a hurry about the driving either. My oldest didn’t start learning until 16/17 – which was way better than my youngest (14). Which was my fault. I thought she could handle it but there’s a big difference b/t those ages. Anyway, she did pass her first driving test in Arkansas (for her limited license). Then we moved to another state and she had to take the test again – in which she failed the first time. So some states are way more lax than others, I think.JDDecember 4, 2018 at 3:54 pm #810925Ya luckily he isn’t ready either and it’s food he’s aware of that. It’s good that he passed so he doesn’t have to take it at the DMV which I am thinking is way more scary. Now that the roads have been icy here he hasn’t even been driving much the pay few weeks so when I was texting his mom I mentioned to her to get some more driving time in back in CA when he goes for Xmas. On top of him not being ready we really don’t need a ruined car right now, let alone any possible injuries. I don’t even like my husband driving on the ice.
Excited about the job though, him taking some responsibility on.
AngeDecember 4, 2018 at 4:36 pm #810929Wait you can learn to drive at 14? Wow! Here it’s a flat 16 and you have to pass a written test before you are allowed to jump in the car. You then have to log like 100 hours of supervised driving (I think, that all came in after I got my licence) before you take a driving test at 17 and if you pass you can drive unsupervised.
I think here you can drive at 14 on a farm. ha
At 15 here they can get their permit after passing a written test, then have to do the 100 hours and pass the driving and written test. Son has done the driving test but not yet the 100 hours. I think he does the written test at the DMV.
I had to do a written test for the first time since I was 16 when I got my license here a few months ago. I was a bit concerned I wouldn’t remember it all. The only one I missed was about a sign for tractor crossing….because, ya know, prior to this place I have never seen a tractor cross the road.
December 4, 2018 at 4:50 pm #810931Yes, you can get a driving permit at 14 in Arkansas after taking the written exam (at least that was still the law 4 years ago-we live in a different state now). And I don’t recall logging hours for my oldest or for my youngest though when we moved I did have to log hours for her here – a number of hours driving in different conditions and different times of day even and you can take the driving test with a company and be 16.
In Arkansas, you have to take the driving test with the sheriffs office – with an actual sheriff in the passenger seat (which is terrifying! – that’s what I had to do!). You can take the actual driving test anytime after 6 months of having your permit. So technically, you can get your license before being 16 though it is still very limited. And that is what my daughter had done except it didn’t work here in Colorado.
@JD I had to take a written test to get my IL license when I moved here a few years ago and thought I was going to fail! Not sure if it was the same but there was a portion of the test that was ID-ing road signs by shape and there were a TON of them. Some were super obvious, some I’m not sure I’d ever seen before in my life!
@RangerChic The book is called Attached! https://www.amazon.com/Attached-Science-Adult-Attachment-YouFind/dp/1585429139/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543962051&sr=8-1&keywords=attached There’s a quiz for you to find your own attachment style, and a quiz for you to determine your partner’s style. I guess just over 50% of people have a secure attachment style, while the rest fall into avoidant or anxious styles, and then a very small percentage are anxious-avoidant. Taking the quiz, I felt like I have a mix of anxious and secure traits, but feel like I have an anxious style after reading the chapter dedicated to it. They included a flow chart of how the anxious attacher thinks when something makes them feel their relationship is threatened, and for me, it was spot on. Whoa.JDDecember 4, 2018 at 6:40 pm #810944Yes I sort of guessed on some but to some extent obvious. I seriously had major anxiety. I don’t remember that stuff. I didn’t have to do a written moving from CA to CO or back to CA. Stupid Illinois. I wanted Jessie whatever not to win Secretary of State because I’m tired of his flipping name on everything. Who has their name on IDs, license plates, every damn mailing. Wanted to knock him off his horse. Sadly did not work. No idea if I agreed with his politics or not, just am over that butts name. ?
December 5, 2018 at 11:03 am #811003Thanks Copa! I added it to my Amazon wish list for now since I’m in xmas shopping mode (but may add to my cart since it’s cheap enough) soon!
I can’t believe y’all had to take a written exam to get your DL in Illinois! I think I would fail, epically. Thankfully I didn’t have to take one when moving to Colorado. However, I think most adult drivers in Colorado need to retake the written and driving test as the drivers here are awful….there have already been nearly 50 city fatalities from car accidents this year (in the city I live), which is way up. People just don’t care about other people on the road here. And public transport is awful, so can’t take that.
December 5, 2018 at 1:19 pm #811016Where in CO did you live JD? (if you don’t mind sharing). I live in Colorado Springs. I keep thinking the same thing of the drivers here, except I think the Springs continues to have an influx of people moving here from all over, so maybe they don’t. Also, I thought they would also know how to take care of the roads better…they don’t. I remember thinking when I moved here that the snow is not new to them so why all the trouble getting roads plowed?!
