The majority of his supporters (at least those who are not rabid racists and bigots) were focused on the economy and his elimination of regulation. As the markets continue to crash and small business owners see no help in sight – I’m curious how they are going to vote now.
This is likely going to continue for months. The sheer volume of people in this country and the lack of medical care available to them is going to come crashing down. It’s only March, but November is NOT far away.
I’m not expecting people in Nebraska or Indiana to care about the death toll in NY – but they are going to see it in their own communities. There was a great article in the times about a guy in Louisiana who has been in ICU for 2 weeks – and was there before the lock downs, before everything came to a halt. And the people who were saying this was a hoax have gone very quiet because someone they knew, who is in his mid forties is in the ICU on a respirator. And that’s one less for them if they or a family member gets sick.
HelenMarch 23, 2020 at 8:53 am #878285My city just posted that we have 17 cases here. Well they didn’t count my family because we were never tested. Not even when I had to rush my husband to the er. So that just means there’s 17 people dying of it here. And nothing is shut down. This could’ve been over quickly if Fox news didn’t politicize fucking public health. I wonder when the economy tanks if they’re still going to vote for the people who promise to strip help from needy people. Because we’re all about to become needy.
March 23, 2020 at 12:39 pm #878314I am right there with you, Fyodor, though I seem to vacillate between rage and wanting to cry over his stunning lack of empathy and competence. It is so horrible – he is so incredibly stupid, he does everything wrong and puts others’ lives in danger, but he will most likely sail through this unscathed. We should be listening only to the experts and the scientific evidence, but his pathetic ego can’t handle this (or people like Governor Cuomo getting more air time), so he has to keep shoving his ignorant self behind the mic and passing on blatantly false information. There are three people in the hospital in Nigeria right now because they overdosed on the medicine he told everyone would cure the virus. But I’m sure he takes no responsibility for that, either.
And now he’s planning on putting more lives in danger by cutting the social distancing short just because he is obsessed with money. So between his rich, ignorant donors and the Russian interference that we’re not even talking about anymore, he’ll probably end up back in the WH come November. Miss MJ is so right.
SDSmith82March 23, 2020 at 12:40 pm #878315Just learned this morning that I was exposed (and I know exactly who it came from). The individual fessed up to being tested on Thursday, and mentioned that he’d been in a higher risk zone than where we are in Ca (until recently anyway) and he chose not to self isolate. He fully exposed everyone on our team. We are 2 days away from the 2 week meeting point with him, and I’m furious. I’ve been cautious, only going out for dog related walks, avoiding most crowds, etc, and then that email shows up today.
It doesn’t help that I have a negative relationship with this person already, but I’m so heated it’s making my temperature rise. I’m fairly certain I wasn’t close enough to him specifically, but I can’t say the same about the others he may have been close enough to spread it to.
I’ve been working from home since March 12, and was exposed on March 10th, so I should be clear, but I’m still so ticked off. He knew he was considered a risk, and chose to bring it to work. And we work for a company that’s been closely monitoring things since it started, with great sick leave, and great bosses that allow us to take it. He’s irresponsible and careless in most work things, so I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am, like I said, ANGRY.
I’m not so angry for myself, but my husband who’s job is luckily considered essential. Had I gotten sick, he’d clearly get it and share it with everyone else.
TheLadyEMarch 23, 2020 at 1:18 pm #878320@SDSmith82 Ugh, that’s so frustrating! (Sorry, I hit “enter” before I finished typing…and I don’t know how to edit.) It sucks that he knowingly exposed everyone. That could be considered a crime.
I know I was exposed at least twice – once when I went to vote, and I went to Target 2x a couple weeks ago (before the lockdown) where a staff member ended up testing positive. I’m out of the woods for both of those, so obviously my precautions worked.

Watch this.
A brilliant Parody of Madonna’s VOGUE called HOME. Sung by a sexy, hilarious, straight guy.
HelenMarch 23, 2020 at 1:21 pm #878322SDSmith82 symptoms usually start 5-6 days after exposure. My symptoms started 5.5 days after my family’s. I wasn’t infected till they were showing symptoms. Obviously this is one person’s experience, but it seems to be typical. You’re well within your rights to give this guy a real ass chewing
