Wishing for a quick recovery! And for you not to get it @copa.

You and I have very different experiences here, but I know it’s neighborhood-based. People in the West Loop and downtown are definitely not wearing masks. I am. But most aren’t. We’re sticking to a few neighborhood places that we feel fairly ok at and want to support because of that.

I’m finally fully vaxxed today. It’s been a long, ridiculous road here in Aus but now everyone in my family is finally done. Thank god, now back to lockdown.

We came up with a game plan (separate bedrooms and bathrooms, open windows, masking up in common areas, lots of cleaning) but I guess I’m expecting to test positive eventually. It felt weird to go to bed without him last night and of course woke up at 3 a.m. to worry the rest of the night away (bought a pulse oximeter on Amazon at like 4 a.m.). I’m going to try to stock up on a few at-home test today so I can keep an eye on myself.

So far his symptoms are mild flu-like, but he said his night sweats were really bad again last night so he’s tired from poor sleep. His first symptom we now realize happened on Sunday, when he said his ears were plugged up — I didn’t realize this was a COVID symptom.

We’re suppose to go to the Bay Area in a few weeks and now I’m worried we won’t be able to go. It’s for my grandma’s funeral mass and I haven’t seen my family in over three years so I’ve felt stubborn about reconsidering.

I am so sick right now from… shingles again! My son had strep throat last week and I thought what I had. I just started laughing at my doctor’s office. How can I get shingles twice in a year? I can’t even get the vaccine until I’m 50. Ugh. Feeling very sorry for myself right now. I need book and tv recommendations.

Sorry to hear about your shingles! I liked most of the first season of Modern Love on Prime, and the second season just came out. My book club just read The Guncle, and while it wasn’t really for me (I was in the minority not really caring for it), it was an easy-breezy and heartwarming read.

Anonymousse, you can get the vaccine for shingles if you are under 50 (at least in the US). You may have to go to a private doctor – I assume you are under an HMO – and have them write a script. I had some of my dental patients do this and they have never had shingles again. Having this so early is a bad sigh.

I am so sorry @copa. I hope your boyfriend continues to get better and that you do not get it. Also I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother. Maybe you will be safe within the 14 days before. Keeping hopeful for you both.

What’s it a bad sign of? I’ll look into that, thanks.

    I’m sorry anonymousse! That sucks!!

FWIW, my mom had shingles pretty bad in her early 30s and she has had no side effects since or no other medical issues besides your run of the mill cold. She’s in her 60s now.

Having shingles this early and frequently I question how your immune system is doing. Sometimes after a bout of shingles there is permanent pain. Please see someone and pay for the vaccine yourself.
