    That’s true- actually the only time it wasn’t the case was in 2013, when McAuliffe (D) won after Obama’s reelection. We have a weird system in Virginia where the governor only gets one term at a time, and the elections are the years following a presidential election, so it’s always an opportunity to give the finger to the current governing president/party. McAuliffe was fine the first time around, but I wasn’t excited to have him as the nominee this time – there was a woman named Jennifer Carroll Foy who I voted for in the primary that I think would have been a much more exciting candidate. Ah Dems, always shooting ourselves in the foot by nominating moderate white guys. (in fairness, McAuliffe is actually pretty liberal…) Turnout was decent, though, in spite of that. It’s just very frustrating and I can’t understand why people vote the way they do. I’m relieved that my daughter will be vaccinated before school mask mandates are banned. EYE ROLL.

    Congrats on getting the whole clan vaxxed, Wendy!

    @Kate
    , the 100+ mandate affects my company too. In particular, 3 people on my team who, despite being fairly liberal and well-educated, are refusing to get vaccinated. I think we can convince one to do it, but the others.. not a chance.

    We’ve got the Spawn of Fyodor scheduled for Saturday. She’s had COVID before so this has been been somewhat lower tension for us, but we’re looking forward to her and all of her friends being vaxxed and being able to resume semi-normal social activities.

    @MG, do you think they will agree to weekly testing then? They can’t really quit, right, because where else will they get a job??

    I, too, have very liberal people in my life refusing the vaccine. I simply remain baffled and — frankly, irritated by them.

    @kate: i mean, if they want to work onsite, they have to be vaxxed. It will be interesting if they pivot to WFH or something. Or who knows. I haven’t heard if an at-home rapid is acceptable? if that’s the case, it shouldn’t be THAT troubling for them to submit. Having to wear a mask for the next year plus.. well, that’s on them

    Kate, I’ll take your word for it that your boss is a good person. But damn… She sure sounds like she is one lousy boss. Honestly? I don’t understand how people with oh-so many issues (boundary or otherwise…)Somehow always rise to the top.

    It’s simple BGM. Some folks are expert at managing up and being entirely submissive to their boss’s wishes. I think they compensate for that by being awful bosses who need to have their reports treat them the same way.

    She actually is a good manager in a lot of ways. Really, one of the best I’ve had. I’ve been working in business for 20+ years so I’ve had quite a few. But she does have some personality traits that are rather wacky and, like everyone, the pandemic has exacerbated them. Even before, she was described as “neurotic and controlling.” I find I can usually manage her, but sometimes she takes me by surprise.
