My mom broke and invited my aunt and uncle over for dinner. We will sit apart and eat take in. Then we’ll clean our hands and play cards. Cards that I literally washed in the sink earlier today.
They came over for Passover and no one got sick then, and all of us have been fairly quarantined only going to the supermarket in gloves and masks.

@copa. That’s where we are at with my sister. My niece was born March 24th. My mom is there right now. And my brother in law’s mom came for Passover. They were ok with me and the husband visiting, but we decided against it. Especially since we’re downtown and have more exposure to the virus than them. Plus I’m a rule follower.
I should have added, feel better soon Wendy.
I’m actually really curious. How’d you get to the doctor? Do you guys have a car? I’ve wrestled with this here. I guess if we get sick and need to get to a hospital, we’d call an ambulance. I’m not sure what else we’d do. That’s a scary thought too.
I’m beginning to think the husband and I should lease a car for a couple of years while we ride this out.
May 2, 2020 at 4:29 pm #885158Yeah, I’m seeing family who are literally scientists socializing on their boat with friends today. Some of our neighbors, who I’m pretty sure are police officers have been out in their yard all day with family. Not socially distancing, at all. I’m talking grandma carrying the baby, everyone sitting with each other. It really makes me feel helpless and angry. There is no scientific proof that anyone has immunity, even if they’ve had it.
Speaking of, Wendy- sad to hear you’re sick again. I hope you get better soon. I’ve actually not been feeling well at all this week and my doctor (via FaceTime) thinks it’s a combination of allergies and asthma. So now I’m back on an inhaler and coughing my brains out.
May 2, 2020 at 4:43 pm #885159Thanks, guys.
@ktfran, we don’t have a car but there’s an urgent care clinic in our neighborhood, just three blocks away and I walked there (I don’t think I could have walked farther than that but three blocks was doable and I kept as much distance from everyone as I could). The clinic closed for a month but re-opened a few days ago and they now have covid tests and antibody tests. They’re still only doing covid tests per the doctor’s discretion (you have to have symptoms, I guess).May 2, 2020 at 5:03 pm #885162@dearwendy, if this current illness isn’t COVID, will you be able to get an antibody test to see if what you had previously or back over New Years was it?
Grant park around 1030 was surprisingly rule following, but I agree, the walkers are the worst. Runners are fine. Maybe 25% wearing masks but the rest of us were keeping our distance and zigzagging. I would agree on the mask-wearing at least in Chicago… people I see take more risks getting closer to others.
May 2, 2020 at 5:25 pm #885164@materialsgirl – yes, anyone can get an antibody test here now is my understanding. I’m not sure how reliable they are though and you’re supposed to wait 2-4 weeks after your last day of symptoms (if you ever had symptoms) before you get one. I definitely plan to get one eventually.
@ktfran I’ve seldom felt the need for a car in Chicago, I think we have good public transit and really like being in a walkable city. My boyfriend has one, though. It’s been really handy during COVID for grocery runs in particular, since we do find ourselves buying a bit more each trip and it’s about a mile each way to the store from either one of our places. I know it’s not my car, but he lets me borrow it (and did before COVID) and I now wouldn’t wanna go back to the totally no-car life. COVID, obviously ya wanna stay away from others to the best of your ability… but even for other emergencies, definitely handy. (Like when I had appendicitis a few years ago… would’ve LOVED a car cause that was an ongoing ordeal for me.)
FyodorMay 2, 2020 at 7:01 pm #885168The antibody tests aren’t FDA regulated and they have false positive issues. Even in a place like NYC where there are high numbers of true positives, there’s a decent chance that it’s wrong for any given person. Hopefully they will have reliable tests at some point.
Part-time LurkerMay 2, 2020 at 7:46 pm #885171I wonder if covid immunity is going to be spotty (no pun intended) like chicken pox immunity. I.E., if you have a mild case the first time you can get it again but if you have a fairly severe case you’re typically immune. When we were kids my sister and I both had chicken pox. I was wrecked the first time around but she had a super mild case and then caught it again a few years later. She seems to be immune now, but my aunt had it three times before she finally developed an immunity- at least I hope she did!
I hope everyone who’s under the weather starts to feel better soon!
I love all of you guys. Just wanted to chime in and mention that, in olden days, we just had them– the diseases. I am so sorry that I am only a facts person.I had real Measles, real Mumps, real Chicken Pox as a child.
I wish that all of you will be as careful as possible for those you really care for.I know ypu can do this. -
