Mark, I’m sorry you’re in the bell jar. I have loved the pictures of the work you’ve been doing in the desert.
I am super angry at most of our extended family. Pretty much everyone is disregarding the orders for social distancing and lockdown, and yes, in our state they are still valid. I’m trying to focus on myself and my little family but it’s hard when there are “Covid truthers” in the family. My husband is the calmest, most patient person I’ve ever known and he actually argued with his dad about it this weekend. I managed to get him to get off the phone, and now we’re receiving email diatribes with all the right wing coronavirus bs talking points.
May 4, 2020 at 11:01 am #885236I watched that video that Kate linked pages back with Jen Atkin giving her husband a fade and did a really good haircut for my husband. He’s gotten so many compliments that I’m now his official hairdresser.
That’s great! I used her video but wasn’t ready to try to cut the top with scissors, so I did the whole thing with clippers. It came out not bad. Would have helped if we had 1/2 guards, or the type of clippers that have the longer/shorter level, but the set we could get our hands on was more basic.
BittergaymarkMay 4, 2020 at 11:47 am #885239Thanks, Anonymousse.
Kate: right now my hair is looking like Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars. An out of control shaggy 1970s mop that — I guess is actually very Tatooine and thus oddly desert appropriate. But it is presently driving me crazy. It’s just… too much. Even so, I don’t see me getting it cut for a while.
Yeah… I am concerned about what will happen in the coming weeks with all this willy-nilly bordering on silly reopening. Lets hope I am wrong and that my growing fears are completely unfounded.

I won’t blow smoke up your ass about what the future holds, but these are f*cked up times where we’ve been robbed of all of the emotional support and routine and structure that we normally have. You may be right, but none of us are in the right headspace to rationally assess the future.
I mean, I have similar feelings about the future, but I strongly suspect you don’t get a free pass to oblivion by dying. Or get reborn as a child or whatever. I don’t think you can opt out, unfortunately. I think you probably just realize you’re still you and you still have to deal with your shit. I don’t want to find out I’m right AND fuck up my parents and my husband.
May 4, 2020 at 1:29 pm #885243I hope all here who are sick are on their way to mending.
My husband and I are supposed to go to Grand Cayman June 6th. I was hoping beyond hope that this whole thing would be more under control by now so that we could still go on our vacation. Now it doesn’t look like we will get to go. I haven’t cancelled our flights yet….I guess it’s time to do that. I’m so sad!
Hang in there BGM…
Oh, yes, the hair. I was behind myself to begin with when the hair salons closed, and now it’s terrible and quite irritating.
The thing that is getting to me is the incessant food shortages. It’s as if we’re getting a snowstorm every day. Oh, yes, the wipes and hand sanitizer, too. And the toilet paper, still this late int he game ha ha.
BTW, I heard that there are the beginnings of a supply shortage of beef. One regional chain (I can’t remember where or which one) has limited customers to one pack of ground beef.
Having that secondary surge once things reopen is a rear of mine, as well. I hope it goes slowly enough that nothing happens, but I’m watching for the possibility.
Wendy, I hope you get better.
I switched to vegetarian meals from Hello Fresh for now, because I don’t know what the fuck is going on with meat. Maybe I’ll just become a vegetarian. It’s easier now than it used to be. The headlines I’ve seen about the processing plants and the animals are beyond upsetting. For now, I plan to use the frozen chicken we have already and put it in some of the meals.
Ok, I keep hearing about meat shortages but haven’t experienced it yet. We don’t eat tons of meat anyway, but haven’t had a problem purchasing it. It’s usually some ground turkey and maybe either chicken or pork and some kind of fish, whatever looks good.
@kate, Love and Lemons is a great resource for vegetarian cooking. She makes it easy to substitute items too. Love her.
@Rangerchic, we were supposed to take my mom to San Francisco in June that same weekend. We canceled a long time ago. The husband and I usually have at least two personal trips and several work trips booked at any given time. It’s currently zero. -
