Fyodor, I’ve heard that, too, about a strong reaction to the first shot for people who’ve had previous infections. I get my shot tomorrow, but Drew got his yesterday and he feels totally fine so far aside from a sore arm. How about your wife?
February 19, 2021 at 9:41 am #1030636And with such an extensive eligibility list in NY, over half the state now qualifies for the vaccine, so you’ve got 10 million people (or maybe 8 million if 2 million have already been vaccinated) vying for about 300K doses a week. If anyone in NYC is trying to get a vaccine, I have a few tips. Feel free to email me.
February 19, 2021 at 9:38 am #1030635Each state has different eligibility criteria. In NY, if you’re under 65 you only need one of the following comorbidity to qualify (along with a doctors note or some sort of proof):
Cancer (current or in remission, including 9/11-related cancers)
Chronic kidney disease
Pulmonary Disease, including but not limited to, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma (moderate-to-severe), pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and 9/11 related pulmonary diseases
Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities including Down Syndrome
Heart conditions, including but not limited to heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, or hypertension (high blood pressure)
Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) including but not limited to solid organ transplant or from blood or bone marrow transplant, immune deficiencies, HIV, use of corticosteroids, use of other immune weakening medicines, or other causes
Severe Obesity (BMI 40 kg/m2), Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2 or higher but < 40 kg/m2) Pregnancy Sickle cell disease or Thalassemia Type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus Cerebrovascular disease (affects blood vessels and blood supply to the brain) Neurologic conditions including but not limited to Alzheimer's Disease or dementia Liver disease *But then you have half the states in the country, like in Missouri, that won't vaccinate teachers yet. It's absurd.February 19, 2021 at 9:14 am #1030631It’s a relief hearing about people’s older family members getting vaccinated! My parents were scheduled for their second doses tomorrow but because of weather issues causing vaccine delays, they’ll have to wait a week. Drew and I both qualify in New York now for the vaccine bc of comorbidities and we happened to get very lucky finding appointments. His was yesterday, and mine is tomorrow, if supply lasts (NYC is down to only a few thousand doses and supply shipment has been delayed several days because of weather issues around the country). Now, I’m trying to find appointments for a few 65+ people I know. I wish it weren’t such a crapshoot, but I do think in the next 2-3 weeks it will be much easier for everyone. Fingers crossed.
February 15, 2021 at 8:16 am #1029313I’ve been kind of over skinny jeans for a while – I don’t think they’re the most flattering on me as I’ve got big, child-birthing hips, and I also find them constricting even with the stretch – but I’m having such a hard time finding anything else that fits ok. Everything is high-waisted which is terrible for me because I have no waist and a fat upper belly that hangs over the waistband of high-waisted jeans. Even when I’m thin, which I am not right now, that part of my body is always the biggest. I can do a medium high-waist on my less bloated days but even those are hard to find. I did find a regular-waisted straight-leg, crop pair of jeans on Nordstrom the other day that were on sale and I ordered them and they’re supposed to arrive today so we’ll see.
I have two pairs of skinny jeans I wear but don’t love, some wide-leg jeans that I do love but they’re like 4 years old now and are about to split down the ass so I can’t wear them anymore and haven’t found a replacement pair, and some Joe’s honey bootcut jeans that fit my curves really well and I don’t care if bootcut is not in style or you’re only supposed to wear them with heals. I wear them with my sparkly black and gold sneakers and huge fake fur coat and leopard print tote bag and probably look like try-hard Brooklyn mom of a certain age, which I am, and I just don’t really care.
When it’s time to re-integrate back into society, I think caring about my appearance might be a bit of an adjustment. I do get dressed every day – and out of leggings at least five days a week, and makeup usually 4-5 days a week – but that’s for my own benefit and my husbands who has to look at me. Thinking about other’s perception of me just hasn’t been on my mind in a long time. And I honestly don’t know if that’s a good thing or not so good.
February 8, 2021 at 6:47 pm #1021984Vaccination cards as proof of immunity will be meaningless if the vaccine doesn’t stop transmission, and right now we don’t know if they do stop it or not. We know it prevents serious illness (90+% of the time and death 100% of the time), but people could potentially still get infected and spread covid even if fully vaccinated.
February 6, 2021 at 10:13 am #1015560Cuomo announced yesterday that starting feb 15, New York State will expand eligibility to people with certain underlying conditions, which will include me. Wonder how long it’ll take to find an available appt.!
January 31, 2021 at 6:34 am #1009593Yikes, that’s scary! Glad you’re ok now and hope that’s the last flare up for a long time.
Did you get your two vax shots yet? I’d wait until then to go out for brunch.
January 30, 2021 at 1:55 pm #1009585Ugh, what a nightmare, Kate! We’ve had significant drama around water damage in our place and it’s just the worst. To deal with it in a pandemic is insult to injury!
My parents drive 90 minutes in a thunderstorm for their first vaccine shot and my dad just told me they arrived and the line is a mild long. They have appointments but I guess it doesn’t matter. Hopefully they get their shots and get home safely.
January 27, 2021 at 10:06 am #1009440(We moved Joanie to another school – Jackson is on a waiting list – and, fortunately, zoom classes are MUCH better for her). Anyway, sorry you’re having a frustrating morning on top of your home-related stress, Kate!
January 27, 2021 at 10:05 am #1009439Sounds like a regular Wednesday in my son’s zoom class, sadly.
