Here’s the full story, allegedly.

June 4, 2020 at 5:27 pm #887795The real issue is those people supposedly care more about the looting than black people being murdered by police. I don’t actually feel like they care about anything, they just want to point out that protestors are criminals and deserve the brutal arrests I’m seeing on Twitter. Pointing out that looting is wrong is one way to twist the narrative and put the blame back on protestors and black Americans.
I do truly believe most of the looting is being done by opportunists-not protestors. There are threads and threads of videos of plenty of white people looting and stealing surfboards from Patagonia stores.
I would like to compare Trump’s people gassing and attacking protesters so he could go on a nice walk and hold a bible upside down to our prime minister being told to get off someone’s lawn and complying with an apology:
LisforLeslieJune 5, 2020 at 5:34 am #887841A lot of companies have made it really clear that stupid shit like the video example will not be tolerated. I am required to take training annually that I refer to as “Don’t be a Dick Training”. It reinforces the notion that inappropriate comments and jokes are not acceptable and it also outlines that no one owes you an explanation of their religion (or lack thereof), their sexuality, their fertility etc.
If someone sent that video in my company, in a normal month, they’d likely be fired within the week. If it were to happen today, they’d suspend account access immediately and do a forensic sweep to see if that email was sent to anyone else and if the recipients sent it on to anyone. And they’d probably do a historical review for similar nonsense.
June 5, 2020 at 9:17 am #887862We ordered take out last night. While we waited, we went down to a local waterhole that had set up a streetside bar with roped off areas for drinking. Decent amount of people spread out, having beers and cocktails in plastic cups. It was nice to enjoy the weather, support a local business and see the neighborhood come together (well, while 6 feet plus apart). Watched several groups painting the boarded up businesses.
June 5, 2020 at 9:49 am #887867and testing has expanded to all at 11 sites here. I also found a blood antibody place around the corner that’s doing them for free. We’re most likely going to get both tests as a precaution before the end of June trip to see my inlaws. (do the antibody first, and if no evidence of having had it, then we’ll see about getting tested to make sure not asymptomatic).
There’s a restaurant near me with an elevated patio that’s partially enclosed that always has frat party vibes in normal times. Walked by yesterday and their patio is reopened and it did not look like proper social distancing was happening. I’ve never been before and have no plans to, but hope other restaurants are opening a bit more cautiously, even if it kills their usual vibe.
Oh, people were out in mass yesterday morning (we walk to the grocery store every Thurs morning) and the husband just went out today to grab something for lunch and he said it was nuts out there.
I’m going to still be super cautious. We’re going to wait a couple of weeks to see what happens and if cases increase again. Give people a little and they go crazy.
June 5, 2020 at 1:34 pm #887881NYC reported zero covid deaths yesterday, which is incredible (we – just NYC alone -were at over 500 a day less than two months ago). I know the protests will lead to a spike in cases but given how low the case count currently is, the protests are all outdoors, everyone wears a mask, and people are still mostly avoiding public trans, I hope the spike will be manageable and not prolong things too much.
