I used to love to use the ricer as a kid – that was always the job I fought my sister for when we were helping in the kitchen. I need to make some of these mashed potato recipes and try them out.
Sarah, please don’t quit us. I find you fascinating. I’m glad you didn’t date the shady boss. Did you find someone else? Are you in a good relationship now?
February 18, 2016 at 10:17 am #441929ooooh the gravy volcano potatoes! Make a dimple in the potato mound and fill it with homemade gravy and let it pour over the sides of the mound. Yup best combo ever! Never used sour cream or anything like that in potatoes. Although my grandmas famous pancakes call for sour cream, and I swear best thing ever!
February 18, 2016 at 11:00 am #441935Wow, I can’t believe this is still going! So great. I make savory mashed sweet potatoes!! Instead of regular milk, I use unsweetened almond milk, butter, salt and pepper.
Also @Kate, it makes me so happy that you typed out the Facts of Life theme song a few pages back (even though it seemed to go over Sarah B’s head)
Not yet @Anonymouse! I will see if I can find some, thanks for the tip!
It was a bit too sweet, it was onion gravy.
@Pamplemousse Rose, she’s really young and I don’t even know if it’s on anymore.
Snoopy128February 18, 2016 at 11:33 am #441941Why are you all making me hungry this morning! All I want to do is go home and eat food. Even mashed potatoes, which I don’t love. I do like nugget potatoes, roasted whole, then given a single squish with a fork and re-roasted with lots of salt and pepper. And green onions. And cheese. Cheese is my life-blood these days.
BostonpupgalFebruary 18, 2016 at 11:42 am #441942@Nookie as a vegetarian for the past 7 years, I can tell you mushroom gravy is where it’s at. And the secret to excellent mushroom gravy is soy sauce, maybe 1 Tbsp per 2.5 cups of gravy or to taste, and don’t add any other salt. Also finely, finely diced mushrooms and onion to make the gravy. I love it so much I’ll often just serve it over egg noodles. My husband, the happy meat eater, is also obsessed with it.
