@MG, my company is big into ACE. We kept high school interns this year, virtually. In fact, we were the first company that said they wanted to continue this summer and a total of 9 out of the usual 40+ agreed to do the program. I heard the summer project is going really well with the interns. A lot better than expected, which is good to hear.

This isn’t college or school, but my office is opening back up on the 10th at 25% occupancy. We’re the first U.S. office in my global company with an approved plan. It’s voluntary. They’re aren’t forcing anyone to go in, but some want to. Originally I thought I’d go in maybe once a week. Anyway, since I lead a department, I’m privy to the plan and… I NO LONGER WISH TO GO IN AT ALL. Basically, the building cleans common area/things thoroughly at night and during the day but each person is responsible while at work. Our shared spaces were a disaster before Covid. Like people left dishes in the sink. If they missed a trash can, they didn’t bother to pick up. That kind of thing. I don’t trust anyone to clean up in the kitchen or conference room. Fuck that.

I told my team members to stay home too. It’s not worth it.

In other new, my hometown is a rising hotspot in IL. It’s right on the MO/IL border and also close to IA. The Governor was there yesterday basically begging people to wear masks. I will not be seeing the fam for a very long time now. I know my mom is good. But I’m like 99% my dad is not. It’s unfortunate.

I always forget this thread started right after my first date with the husband. Our first date was five years ago on the 19th. We’ll be married three years in Sept.

Thank you again ver for starting this thread. It was a godsend. And thank you Wendy for hosting.

And ver, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Sending you good thoughts and a hug.

Apparently Chicago is next. He’s sending people here to help with the violence. We’ll see how that goes.

I’m not advocating for owning a gun if you don’t want one. But I don’t think it’s totally out of left field to consider buying one and right now if it makes you feel safer. These aren’t normal times and we have a person in charge who encourages violence.

Like I said, we’re not buying one, but I am 100% concerned for our safety where we live.

I don’t look at it as an Us vs. Them. I wouldn’t be walking outside brandishing my gun. But I live in a four-story condo in Chicago on a major thoroughfare. The business on the ground floor has a large glass front. I was/am concerned that someone would break it and then they’d have access to all three resident floors.

We’re not buying a gun. The thought absolutely did cross my mind. It was about a five minute convo with the husband.

I’ve considered it from time to time over the last 20 years of my adult life.

EDT: We eat (or someone eats) everything my dad hunts / fishes. For the longest time, I didn’t like duck at restaurants. Couldn’t compare to my mom’s.

I’m with @fyodor and others. I don’t think major civil unrest / violence is out of the realm of possibility. I actually think something could happen with Trump’s constituency after the election.

I grew up around guns. My dad is a hunter and he taught all of us gun safety and stressed at all times how dangerous they were. I personally don’t like them, however living in the thick of a major city, I’ve often considered owning one. We’re not going to buy one, but I’ve considered it. And if I did, I would 100% take gun courses.

Finally found out why my dinner reservations were canceled Friday. A dishwasher self reported that he/she tested + for Covid. They shut down ops for the weekend and are also closed on Monday and Tuesday.

I kind of figured it was Covid-related.

@List, I didn’t realize you were in PBC. I lived in Stuart for five years after college until I moved here. I used to love shopping at in Palm Beach Gardens, years and years ago.

I will say, part of the reason I stopped looking at FB is all of the acquaintances I had from my Florida days. Nearly everyone I knew are hardcore republicans.

    Happy birthday Helen.

I totally get the time alone. Pre-covid, the husband and I averaged to be at home at the same time one week a month due to work travel schedules. It’s an adjustment for sure.

We were always ok with the work travel because it helped support our personal travel lifestyle.

I’ve adjusted by taking a lot of evening baths. Speaking of, I’m due for another order of bath salts.

Oh, I’d only do Spa Soak, so not a spa. That’s my fave place here though.

Oh, mg, let us know how the spa experience goes. Please! I’ve considered it but didn’t know how I’d feel with a mask on the entire time.
